Palolem
Having been totally satisfied with our self-catering holiday we prised ourselves away from Benaulim to go down to visit the last beach in Goa, Palolem, more to meet up with our two friends that were staying down there than to visit another beach. A short ride back to Margoa and then we transfered buses taking us on the 1.5hr ride along the windy, palm tree lined hilly lanes. Arriving at our destination expecting another small quiet beach we were surprised to find of a small westernised resort on a beautiful long curved beach. No high rises or that many permanent buildings mostly bamboo huts and restaurants, most still in the initial stages of construction - but certainly the busiest place we've been in Goa so far for white people. We'd arranged to meet our friends in one of the many restaurants / bars that line the palm fringed beach later that afternoon, and as per usual our London based friends were fashionably late!
They did eventually turn up and we sat drinking beers as the sun slowly set, catching up on what each other had been up to in the previous week since we last saw each other - they gave us a good rundown on Kerala, which is to be our next destination. After a change of outfits we hit the bars for one of the only proper "nights out" we've had in a long while, a good night was only marred by a crazy Canadian 'Witch' who took offence at Georgie not accepting a drawn on moustache from her. Clearly derranged this woman sat for five minutes shouting obscentities at our table, we had made the decision we'd leave to avoid looking at this ugly tatooed monstrosity when our sweet blonde friend took it upon herself to try to calm the woman down - failing miserably and it all kicked off! The Tat woman swinging Emily around by her hair, Chris stepped in to separate them unwittingly in the process finding his thumb in her mouth - she was biting like an animal!! There was no other choice but to forcefully remove her from his hand, thus causing more aggravation as half the bar only saw Chris attacking this woman's face with his fist - we ran out the bar as soon as we could, just in time as the woman then started going crazy and attacking other random onlookers! Once the ruccous had settled down we managed to continue drinking till 3am not letting this stupid woman spoil our evening!
The next day was a much more chilled out affair, the day spent lazing around on sun loungers, popping in & out of the sea, even took body boards out into the surf - generally having a good day at the beach! It was the girls last night, but things didn't go quite as planned as oneof them had had their wallet & phone stolen from their room (no idea how!) so she spent 2 hours of the evening at the local police station - while we hung around waiting to go out for dinner. It all worked out in the end and we got a very tasty seafood dinner and had a chilled out night as they left at 4am the following morning there was no big night tonight!
Our final day in Goa we did pretty much nothing just killed the day as our train did not leave till 9pm, its amazing how time can pass while seemingly doing nothing. Kerala tomorrow morning!
Take away the shacks on the beach and you have the perfect picture postcard view.
One of Goa's best, and we should know!
Just minutes before all hell broke loose!
Relaxing on the beach.
The girlies get stuck into their 'Tat' shopping!
Not difficult to escape the early season crowds.
"Your carriage awaits, Madam."

no but Chris carries the scars, and possibly a broken metacarpel or two - his hand is still swollen and sore one week on!
