Siam Reap / Angkor Wat
Arrived into Siam Reap, met by TukTuk driver holding our name aloft...our guesthouse last night had sold our names on to give the driver our business! Being as we were 12km outside the city centre we happily played along with the scam to use his "free" ride with no intention of using his services tomorrow to take us around Angkor Wat! Got him to drop us off at our guesthouse of choice promising to see him tomorrow - but tomorrow never comes! Not much of interest in the town so we sorted out rental bikes for tomorrow and got our heads down for an early night! The next morning we took off on our 'Sit up and Beg' style bikes complete with baskets (Chris is definitely gonna get himself one of those for back home) for the 7km cycle out to these famous Temples! The roads here in Cambodia are about the most lawless and dangerous we've come across in our travels, and we felt quite chuffed to arrive at Angkor Wat still in one piece! Quite hard to put in word the feat of what this ancient civilisation managed to build back in the 9th century - so to make it easy the pictures speak a thousand words or even better come visit yourself..... they really are a wonder of what mankind can achieve without the use of computers or heavy machinery! Unfortunately there are no pics of the main attraction, Angkor Wat (technical problems - you'll have to wait for the postcards) but without a doubt our favourite was the unrestored temple, which remains prisoner to mother nature
