Whitsundays

We arrived into a very touristy Airlie Beach all ready for our Whitsunday Sailing trip....having opted to keep costs down we were booked onto the backpackers 'Party' boat!!! A 3 day/2night adventure which had us sleeping each night at a posh resort on one of the 74 islands – of course they put us in the grotty bunk rooms as far away from the paying guest as possible!! But it was still a better option for most people than staying on the boat – cos as usual no-one counts on getting seasick, not helped by the heavy drinking!! The first 'day' was a bit of a joke as the boat didn't leave till gone 3pm and sailed straight to the island resort.....but thats ok cos we had a pretty good evening, a fantastic feed of big juicy steak followed by a night of drinking games! The following day the young-ones were all suffering and as we sailed off to Whitehaven Beach (star attraction in the Whitsunday's) it became obvious that this wasn't going to turn out to be the party boat we'd expected!! While we stayed on the boat and partied by oursleves everyone went off to sleep on the beach!!! Unfortunately we'd partied too hard in the Sun and after enjoying a game of drunken tennis on our return to our island resort we pretty much hit the sack! But not before stuffing ourselves silly at dinner! The next day we enjoyed yet another big bacon & egg breakie and then sailed off to our snorkel destination....but we'd already decided we weren't bothering with the snorkeling (they made you pay extra for unattractive 'Stinger' suit and it didn't look worthwhile!); turns out we'd made the right decision as most people only stayed in the water for 15mins max and said it was pretty average! Another big feed for lunch, they completely overcatered and we persuaded the hostess to plate up all the leftover cold meats for us to take back with us (about 2kgs of cooked beef & salami).....no idea what we'll do with it, but it's free!!!! On arrival back in Airlie beach we geared oursleves up for the big boat crew party night!!! We did the obligatory pre party drinks and rocked on down to the venue, only to find not a sole in sight - they'd put the start time back a couple of hours so that was the perfect excuse to go to bed....another free night!! We left the next morning for Townsville, carrying our supply of cold meats!!
No photos I'm afraid due to technical faults with camera!
