Singapore & Malaysia

Ok guys we arrived in Asia...back on budget! Singapore being the most expensive country in Asia we visit was still dirt cheap compared to OZ...oh yeah! It only took us a couple of days to explore the City, Island & Country that is Singapore...it's a huge bustling metropolis, but for all the traffic and noise its actually extremely clean and efficient. Once we seen enough of the city and got our first taste of eating out Asian style (if we're to continue to eat with the locals its going to consist of a lot of pointing as the menus are all completely incomprehensible!)...it was off to Malaysia and Kuala Lumpar.

Old meets new in Singapore!

K.L. seemed much more chaotic and busier than Singapore...after the 6hr journey to get there we thought we'd splash out on a bit of comfort (as it was G's birthday)...thanks to some birthday money from Aunt Annie we booked into a rather posh, proper hotel with ensuite bathroom & buffet breakfast! Because Georgie had been here before and wasn't too enthusiastic about the sights to be seen we just spent the one night in KL before moving onto pastures new.
New pastures indeed as we headed up to the Camaroon Highlands, which is full of tea plantations and crop growers thanks to the mild, wet climate....it was so nice compared to the hot, humid smog bound cities! We spent a couple of days here making use of the cool climate to take ourselves off on a 27km hike through tea plantations, jungle and the surrounding hillside - probably the last time while we're in Asia we'll be able to expel such energy! Once again the food played an important part as we stumbled across a fantastic snack - Roti - a flat bread that is made cooked on a hotplate with various fillings, e.g. egg, garlic, cheese or sugar...all for the pricy sum of 15p complete with a bowl of curry to dip it into (makes for an awesome breakfast, lunch or dinner!). This complemented our many meals of curry, rice or noodles - all as spicy as you like!!! (making for some painful experiences over the squat toilets!)

Proper GM Food!

The rolling hills and valleys

Just like the PG Tip advert

Back down to the heat as we made our way over to the North East coast to the Perenthian Islands...we had planned on spending a couple of days here but bad financial planning cut our trip short with only enough money for 2 nights accommodation and one day snorkling we were left with no money for food! Damn these paradise islands without ATMs! But the starvation was worth it as the snorkel trip was really amazing....thousands of multi-coloured fish feeding from our hands, not to mention swimming with giant turtles while the odd stingray or shark glided past! From here we headed North to the Thailand border - two countries down in one week, oops!

Its 33 degrees in here you know!

But its even hotter out here!

Hi Folks, remember me?
