Cardwell
Having left the hussle and bussle of Townsville we'd deceided before hitting Cairns we wanted a breather from the backpacker scene this came in the form of a 2 streeted town off the main highway slap bang in croc country. Nothing in this small town but locals, mossies and relaxation just what we wanted minus the bleedin mossies...
Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side it was so hot and humid it was just like being back in parts of Central America, our first day we attempted a game of tennis but it was such hard work due to the climate that we could only lie around the pool for the rest of the day trying to duck away from the odd shower that persisted on trying to spoil our fun - life is indeed a bitch!!
Our second day we faired much better thanks to an overnight rainstorm which had cleared the air and rendered perfect conditions for a game of golf, sorted out a few clubs (we knew carrying a set of irons in our bags would come in handy eventually) and set about amazing the locals with our skills and professionalism. It happened to be competition day and we didn't half piss off a few locals with our wayward shots and lost balls (appearing out of bushes when there had been a clear fairway ahead of them, took a few by surprise, not sure what they'd thought we'd been doing in there that took so long).. After more showers, lost balls and flukey shots we'd completed our 9 holes and quickly scarpered avoiding the clubhouse and the proceeding lynch squad that must have surely being waiting for our impending return!! Luckily our coach for Cairns left within an hour of us finishing so we escaped and enjoyed the last 4 hour journey ever with our world class coach company "Premier Bus"!!
