Cairns & surrounding areas

On our arrival in the mighty Cairns we were swiftly picked up by a little backpacker shuttlebus that took us took to our home for the next couple of nights 'Serpant Hostel' about 30mins walk from town so quite a central/handy location we thought... After an attempted Tofu curry (vegetarians we need your advice) that didn't work so we called it a night and curled up in our cosy dorm and drifted off to the land of nod, only to be rudely awoken by the noisest snorer in the world who we happen to be sharing with.. what a w**ker and could we f**k wake this nasty man up, a poor nights sleep followed.. Not to be put off we were up and out early in the morning and after checking out the 101 car hire companies here we signed on the dotted line with good old Thrifty hire for a nice little Hyundai Getz 1.6 to be collected tomorrow morning to take us further North and away from snorer man... Explored Cairns for the remainder of the day and resorted to drinking mucho goon in our room that evening in the hope of passing out and not waking till the morning and thus avoiding a possible murder charge, our plan just about working so that we were pretty fresh and raring to go in the morning....
Georgie behind the wheel (far to uncool for a man to drive) we raced upto Hartleys crocodile adventure for a cool 5 hours of croc spotting made easier by the purpose built creek that is home to hundreds of salties and freshies (we know the lingo)... watched a few Steve Irwin wannabies do there stuff and we also sampled the meat from these fine beasts - tastes like fishy pork..From here we drove up the coast a little further reaching Port Douglas or 'Port' as the locals like to say, didn't do much here chilled and explored the town before bedding down for the night. It rained the following morning scuppering our plans of soaking up any rays and indeed driving upto Cape Tribulation the most Northerliest point you can go without 4 wheeldrive...
Instead we visted small town of Mossman, walked through rainforest in the rain and visted the Mossman gorge just a clear river with large boulders in it that the Abo's used to use as a bath! Now they just get rat legged there..it says so in the pamphlet.. After doing the do we drove South and found glorious sunshine ,we made full use of the Getz reaching breakneck speeds on open roads of 83kmph before spotting a sign for coffee world and sensing the aromas of freshly ground coffee we swerved into the carpark, bounding across to sample 21 different coffees from around the globe and not to mention the 12 different chocolates that are made on site (this quickly turning to 30+ as the girl momentarily looked the other way) Now high on caffeine we headed over to another small town 'Karumba' we speed walked our way to the local waterfalls The Barron Falls which as far as OZ goes were the most impressive natural beauty we'd seen so far here.. Found ourselves some good cheap accom and once the caffeine had worn off we went to sleep...
Drove back down to Cairns early in the morning to enjoy our last full day in Cairns and the East Coast as tomorrow we get the hell out of here and fly to Alice Springs the red centre of OZ hopefully joining the Abo's pissed up in the dry creeks!!
Sorry no more photos for the foreseeable future as our camera has now completely died!!!
