Brisbane
We lucked out on accomodation in Brisbane (or so we thought)...moving into a 4 bed dorm which had a double bed....our first since NZ....complete with TV and ensuite, only problem being the bunkbeds also in room - not the private room we'd hoped for!! Brisbane itself was a shoppers delight unfortunately we are holding out till we gwet to Thailand so no shopping for us! However georgie decided to go all out and get her haircut for the first time in over one year!!! But doing it travellers style and opting for the cheap cut at the hairdressing school with the foreign student - despite a photo in front of her the woman seemed to completely disregard all instructions, and instead of getting the new short crop she was after, ended up with mullet/curtains/minute ponytail....oh well at least I'm not home for a few more months!!!
Ignoring the scary redeye, with clever use of a fellow travllers hair straightners I could get the hair looking respectable!
Having seen the sights of Brisbane which apart from shops were a mountain lookout and Botanical Gardens (neither being very exciting) we rented bikes for our last day and got to see a much nicer side of surburban Brisbane including a very tasty farmers market with tonnes of very generous free samples!!! Highlight of Brisbane was meeting two English girls (one who lives just 5mins down the road from our house in the North East) who were heading off the next day to start new jobs as barmaids in a proper outback town (population 1100), they seemed to have no idea what sort of life they were letting themselves in for, a small one horse town filled with a loads of randy farmers (strange how they didn't want male staff??), the term fresh meat springs to mind....but if they are ever allowed to leave we hope to all meet up back in the UK!!
Our only photo of Brisbane - a random chair in the Botantical Gardens!
