Heading Sth down the Wst coast

After leaving our farmstay with the Dicks family we cruised over to Nelson Lakes and spent an evening and a morning there doing a couple of tramps and being molested by bloody sandflies...

'Mo' at Nelson Lakes....another gorgeous free camping spot!

We leisurely headed towards Westport a small non descript town which sells itself as a rustic proper old style NZ town but if the truth be known it was just a shabby version of everyother small town around those parts...

Another picturesque West Coast free campsite.
Constant Bay, Charleston.
Then it was a case of making our journey down the West Coast to a town called Hokitika for the weekend, passing through Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks) and Greymouth which has the famous Monteiths brewery where we indulged in a tour and tasting of these fancy beers only problem being after drinking at least 4-5 free pints we had a 45 min drive to get to Hokitika (ooops)! It's a proper 1 horse town which comes alive for 1 weekend of the year when it hosts the Wildfoods Festival, there we met up with a Kiwi mate who'd we met in Panama earlier on our travels... From that Friday night it was a drinking marathon till the early hours of Sunday morning only interuptting our thirst to try a vast array of wild and wonderful foods! On the saturday daytime our diet consisted of the following oddities: Ostrich sandwich, smoked eel, worm truffles, hu hu grubs alive and wriggling (the same as thre Ozzie Widgety grub), crickets on taco's, venison kebabs, and lots more monteiths beer!!! We had a fantastic weekend, made even better by the uninterupted sunshine (quite a rarity on the West Coast!).

Pancake Rocks!
