Lake Titikaka

We gave oursleves one more day in Cusco to recover...spent day wandering around in shorts and vest top as we put all the rest of our clothes in the wash; luckily the sun was shining, so not too cold!! In the evening we splashed out on few drinks at the Irish Pub (Paddy's) meeting up with our Inca Trail group....turns out I hadn't actlimatized that well as had to go home pretty wasted at 11pm after only 3 drinks!! Did however attempt to sober up a bit by eating the annoying american womans burger (she thought the meat looked pinkish!), didn't even say two words to her!

Us in cheesy Irish Pub!

We left for Puno, on the banks of Lake Titikaka (for those of you not listening in your geography lessons, this is the Worlds highest Navigatable Lake!)!! Organised boat trip out to the floating islands and another island...it what you're supposed to do whilst your here!! Can't say it was that exciting!! The floating islands were pretty cool, but they only took about 30mins to see and the rest of the day was spent sat on a very dull boat to get to a very unimpressive island (Isla tanquile) where we had lunch, picnic bought from market the day before, and then promptly returned home!

The islands are made out of reeds, they built them to get away from the nasty Incas when they invaded!! They have to anchor them down otherwise they might drift off to Bolivia!

The women cooking us fried bread to eat...not exactly a healthy snack...but then these women all look rather well fed!! despite our guide telling us their main diet is fish and the reeds (which we also tried...not a very satisifying snack!)

We took a longwinded bus journey from Puno to La Paz (Bolivia), it included an hour stop in Copacobana (not the one in Rio, but an uninteresting Port of the Bolivian side of the Lake) where we grabbed a cheap lunch. Then after this we were all turfed off our coach to cross the lake by boat as our coaches were loaded onto their own basic ferries, a very bizarre set up!
