Ecuador.
Crossed the columbian/Ecuador border after another nightbus feeling tired and expecting a load of hassle, we were however pleasantly surprised at how easy it was no searching of our bags or person, if only we knew beforehand we could of made some extra cash carrying a little extra talcum powder with us..
Caught a bus to Quito it took 5 hours and was dead exciting... Found accomadation in the form of the Grand Hotel and boy was it grand we had FREE use of the exclusive table tennis including bats and balls... you don't get that in the bloody Hilton...
Visited Mitdad Del Mundo which for you uneducated fools out there translates to 'The Middle of the World' spent 30 seconds hopping between hemispheres and took the obligatory photo, it was pretty shit really but it had to be done...
Had another day in Quito which consisted of wandering around aimlessly for 4 hrs before getting bored and trying a Ruby Murry Ecuadorian style, complete with onion bhaji, which was surprisingly good and alfresco at 2850m...
Got out of Quito the following day heading to a small town in the mountains called Banos which yes does mean toilet, however it is supposed to be a really cool town to go hiking, mountain biking, rafting, etc from.....at last a bit of activity and excitment!!!! Well we got our excitment but it wasn't exactly what we planned!!! The town were rioting against the lack of government aid they received after the Volcano above the town erupted back in August (Oh, and yes thats still active with Amber warnings!)....the townsfolk had blockaded the roads so when our coach got to the edge of town the only way for us to continue was cross country in the back of a pickup truck, across the lava field! We were told that this would only be temporary and we could still do the 60km bike ride we had planned for the next day!!! This didn't help us get anything to eat that night though....the whole town was on strike, the restaurants shut, the streets deserted...had to buy food and cook ourselves!!! The next day we collected our bikes and headed out of town only to be faced by a new, even bigger road block on the route we needed to take....by this time all routes out of town were blocked and we couldn't even take our bikes across...so our 60km ride turned into a 2km piss about round the town!!!!!! That was our signal to get the hell out of there...so we did the next day...and from reports we've got since it sounds like things had got worse!!!
Got the bus to Cuenca...another one of these picturesque colonial cities!! It was pleasant enough but only just kept us entertained for two days, and that included going to the Cinema ( saw Los Infiltrados, in english - not bad for 2.20).
From Cuenca we headed straight for Peru...which is where we are now!! A bland journey apart from some scabby bastard who tried to grab Chris's MP3....he was only 5yrs old!! But he had his mum on his side and she'd hid it down her top...after 10mins confrontation on the bus...me searching the kid and Chris nose to nose with the mother preventing her from getting of the bus...she eventually handed it back over, although it needs sterilizing now!!! (Chris: cheeky bitch she obviously doesn't know Hendon!!)
