Nicaragua - Part Two

Spent two days in Granada....wandering around market; eating some very cheap, good food off street sellers (namely Vigoron - local dish served with pork crackling!!!!); and drinking (which we've since discovered has had dramatic effects on our fitness levels!!!!).
From Granada we headed to San Juan del Sur, on the Pacific coast! Quite a touristy town all geared towards surfing....so when in Rome!!!!....we booked a surf lesson! Nearly called it off after Georgie was stung by jellyfish!!! Glad we didn't!!! They took us to another beach slightly further north, Madura, the surf was amazing...even our instructor seemed impressed by the conditions that day!!! There were some guys riding some very big waves...like on the telly....we on the other hand were playing around in the shallows, but we both managed to stand up!!!!!! Stoked!! Think we will definitly be trying it again on our travels!!

Surfs Up!
But due to our tight schedule we moved on a day later and headed to Omnetepe.....an island made up of two volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua!!! Stunning!!! After our bodies were aching after the surfing we thought the best cure was hair of the dog...so set about the 10hr hike up the larger of the two volcanoes (1650m) and we climbed from the base!!! Amazing views, but due to the sulphar fumes (yes its active) the guide wasn't happy about us going all the way to the crater (about 100m away!!!). The hike was tough going, especially after the effects of too much carribean Rum these last few weeks!!! Decided we're going to go easy on the alcohol especially on the build up to Machu Pitchu!!!
Left omnetepe early this morning and crossed border to Costa Rica....but its bloody expensive here in comparison so we are only hanging around for one day and then we hopefully catch overnight bus to Panama City tomorrow night....we are trying to organise boat from Panama to Columbia via very remote San Blas islands!!!!!! Will update again in Panama!!!
