Guatemala!!!!

Caught flight from Mexico City not a simple procedure to say the least, but thats a long story which has cost us about $800!! Hopefully we can claim it back in a refund of sorts.
After the stress of coping with Mexico city we decided to give Guatemala City a rest (the idea of armed robbery and rape was not appealing!). So we are now in Antigua, small town 1 hr South of G. City. And it´s bloody raining!!!! Hey ho, if the sun doesn't shine will just move on!
More to follow .....Well things improved! Met up with an american couple and took a trip to Volcan Pacaya yesterday (16th). An amazing active volcanoe that only erupted 30 days ago, long hike to the top but worth it to stand right next to flowing red lava!! They don´t let you do things like that back home!

We staying at a lovely little hostel, Casa Amerillo, only ten rooms, beautiful roof terrace and fantastic free breakfast....just had chilli omlette and large plate of free fruit! Would definitely recommen
d! Plus free internet again! We off today to Lago de Aticalan (not on the itinary) but the american couple are going and they´ve been told its worth a visit! To continue.....
After a mad journey on the local chicken buses (brightly coloured old american school buses), arrived in Panajachel on the edge of stunning lake, however the town itself wasn't quite so pretty!! Very touristy, with people hassling you all the time to buy their wears...mostly lots of bright coloured woven cloth and cheap rip-off t-shirts! Spent very cheap night there before taking boat across the lake to San Pedro de Lago - we left late and got caught in the daily afternoon storm, thus a not so enjoyable crossing taking 3 times as long on boat whose engine cut out!!!!
Would definitely recommend San Pedro to any traveller to Guatemala, not really talked about much in the Lonely Planet but its an amazing little town, and very, very cheap!!! we were offered accomodation for just 65p a night, but we decided to splash out 2 pounds each to have the most amazing view from our pent house suite, complete with hammocks on the balcony!!
Spent 3 days in San Pedro, chilling out in the hammocks drinking Rum with our American buddies - did some kayaking and horseriding as well (too cheap not to!). We were sad to leave our friends and San Pedro but we decided we wanted to get up to the Carribean Coast soon as the weather still wasn't great! We therefore have strayed from the itinary and missed out El Salvador in favour of heading straight to Honduras, and Copan Ruinas.....however out journey took us through Guatemala City, a place I would recommend missing at all costs!!!! Too busy, and full of dodgy looking men grabbing your bags off you!!
